The Inspiration

Breaking Waves was born at the northern headland of Hawks Nest, on a day that belonged entirely to us.

We called it Little Gibber. You could only get there by four-wheel drive, which meant the beach was always yours. We'd spend entire days jumping off the headland into that impossible turquoise water, then race each other up and down the sandhills on the way home with salt in our hair and sand between our toes. No phone. No schedule. Just the rhythm of the waves rolling in, one after another, each one catching the light differently — rolling in and breaking clean, the whole surface of the water sparkling like a thousand dancing diamonds in the afternoon sun.
